Can COVID-19 Be Transmitted Through My Water Supply?

There is a lot that we don’t know about COVID-19, the Coronavirus.

And, the fact that we don’t know everything about the virus is throwing the world into a bit of a spin.

There is a lot of panic and uncertainty.

One thing we do know is that it is safe to drink the water that comes out of your tap. The virus cannot impact that!

Plus, if you do have plumbing issues, it is safe to call in the team from Hydrolix Plumbing & Gas to fix it for you. Especially if you or your tenants have to remain in your homes in isolation.

So, let’s look into the virus situation in more detail and why it is vital to call a plumber if you need one.

How Is COVID-19 Transmitted?

Due to extensive research and expert medical knowledge, our nation knows quite a bit about how the virus is transmitted. Just like the flu, COVID-19 is spread through person to person.

The virus is spread via droplets. When an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks, they can generate droplets that contain the virus. As the droplets are too large to stay in the air for long, they settle on surrounding surfaces.

It is thought that the virus can remain alive on any surface for hours or even days. Which is why good hygiene is imperative for protecting yourself and others against the spread of disease.

Because the virus is only spread via droplets, you cannot contract it through your water supply. All main supply water is treated before it enters your home, so there is no danger that the virus is present.

However, you do need your water supply to be in good working order to be able to wash your hands regularly!

Protecting Yourself From The Virus

The best way to protect yourself is by regularly washing your hands (with soap) for 20 seconds, then drying them thoroughly. You should wash your hands:

  • Before you eat or prepare a meal
  • After using the toilet
  • After coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose, or wiping your kid’s noses
  • After being around people that could potentially have the virus

It is also good practice to avoid anyone with a flu-like illnesses and stay away from large gatherings of people.
